My marathon training... →
Here’s a link to my 3 month training for September if anybody is interested to take tips/hints from this.
Threshold Runs...my new favourite run
I’ve dug out my heart-rate monitor this morning and went out for a Threshold/Tempo run.
I didn’t know anything about this type of training until reading about it in Runner’s World. I know a lot of people can just get out and run, no planning, no thought, but I’m certainly the type of person who likes to plan and organise things. Maybe in the one aspect of my life that IS...
Hello again!
I’m back, and i’m probably going to stick around this time. I need to update my bog because in all honesty Half Marathons are not my biggest problem anymore. I may have told a few of you about my stupid Manchester to Newcastle run in September and you all thought “Yeah, like that’s really going to happen”
You know what, you sarcastic bugger, it IS happening....

S'all gone a bit quiet right?
Sorry about that. I’ve let this slip. But I haven’t let the running slip. I’m still working hard and loving every bit of it.
In fact, i’m off to a British Military Fitness session tonight. Out of curiosity more than anything, am I fit, or am I kidding myself?
Either way, i’m sure i’ll find out very quickly whether getting shouted at by an army dude in sub zero...

Who needs the London Marathon?
Eddie Izzard has got in my blood. Lets make that very clear from the start.
I’ve been toying with the idea of entering the London Marathon since watching it on TV this year. I put my application in to the general ballot and got a big fat NO. I should be sighing a secret sigh of relief at the fact I don’t now need to run that long or train that hard. But to be honest I’m very...
So I didn't get a place in 2010 London Marathon
In fact, they sent me a magazine called “REJECTED” with a big picture of a sad rhino on the front called “Neil”. Thanks for that. Then they sent an e-mail saying “we hope by now you’ve received our REJECTED magazine.”
Can’t you just feel the love? They may as well have sent a crappy hand drawn scribble of Richard Branson doing a comedy run whilst...

Putting my foot down
I’ve been working on my speed on the last few runs. Not making any huge changes, but making small steps to speed up. From 1 minute hill sprints bursts to integrating it into my longer runs by alternating each 200m with higher speed and regular pace. Easy does it I think? I’m not very fast so even a sub 10minute mile is a big deal for me. This evening I planned a nice 10k route to run...
Weigh Loss Part 3? (I HOPE YOU ARE COUNTING)
I started trying to lose weight about 3 months ago and i weighed 16 and a bit stone. I’ve not been calorie counting or weighing myself meticulously at all….what i have been doing is cutting down on beer and eating less rubbish and more fresh stuff. I wouldn’t have lost a single ounce without Kate losing weight too. She’s lost a shedload and having healthy competition (see...
Because you think of the best comeback way too...
I think I may start a list of witty comebacks to things that have been shouted to me on my runs, all of which were conjured up by my brain half a mile later when it was just way too late to shout.
In fact, we can all have a go?…Here are a few things that have been shouted my way. Feel free to load the comments section with ammunition of witty retorts.

My Top 5 Essential Songs for a runner's iPod
They’re all Drum & Bass, but hey, I can’t really listen to anything else when running.
1. Brookes Brothers - Tear You Down
2. Danny Byrd vs Brooke Brothers - Paperchase
3. DJ Fresh - Hypercaine (Breakbeat Kaos Remix)
4. Netsky - Everyday
5. Matrix vs Futurebound - Skyscraper

Weight Loss: Part 2
I started this project at a moderately hefty 16 Stone.
I’ve not ate any less, i’ve just ate a lot less rubbish and lot more good stuff.
4 weeks later I weigh. 14st 9
This is not a crash diet. If i weighed 13 stone today that would NOT be an achievement. It would be a silly amount to lose and evidence that I’m not eating enough good stuff. I’m not obsessed with weight...
Note to self:
Just because it says “all you can eat”, TRY NOT TO FOCUS ON THE WORDS “EAT” AND “ALL”
I doubt Usain Bolt incorporates crispy friggin’ duck pancakes into his last few weeks of intensive training. Not a sniff of a prawn cracker. But this weekend I let my will-power go off the scale and ate my body weight in chilli beef.

Keep running fatass!
– Some guy shouting out of a car window. Genius.
I've added comments.
Go crazy kids. Tell me to run faster.
Me: Have you entered Hell Runner yet?
Sam: Nearly, can I enter Little Devils Fun Run instead?
Me: Isn't that for kids?
Sam: Yes
Me: No
Sam: Damn
Me: Although, we might just win that.
Me: Lets do it
Weight Loss
I started running in November last year. Just to see how far I could get. I did manage to get to Half Marathon distance and ran the Liverpool Half Marathon. But one thing was missing, i never lost any weight. I stayed a very hefty 16st and didn’t tone up. I got very fit and could run long distances very easily. Energy levels soared. But stayed the same weight.
So 2 weeks ago i started to...
The Challenge...
I thought i’d put a bit more explanation into my running challenge. Here are the races i’ll be doing:
Robin Hood Half Marathon | Sunday 13th September 2009 | 10:00am 13.1Miles - Nottingham
Great North Run | 20 September 2009 | 10:40
Hell Up North | Sunday 1st November | 11:00am
I’ll be running with my good mate Colin for the Great North Run. But flying solo for the others...
The Kit
The nice thing about running is you don’t need much equipment. Your legs will do just fine.
But a few gadgets help the whole experience so very much easier. Here’s my essentials…
iPod Shuffle - £15 (eBay)
Saucony ProGrid Guide 2 - If you’re going to spend money on running, spend it on good shoes. We all run differently, meaning one shoe doesn’t fit all. If you by...
The story so far.
I’ll admit it, i’ve got a bit fat.
I know exactly when it started too. It was 12 Years, 9 Months and 25 Days ago. I only know this because it was my 12th Birthday. Oasis we’re huge, John Major was still knockin’ about as PM and I was stood in my school field scowling at a football. It was P.E and I was Pee’d off. In fact every P.E lesson was like this. I would avoid...
